Arnold Palmer first came to Bay Hill Club and Lodge in 1965 when he was invited, along with Jack Nicholas, Dave Ragan, and Don Cherry to play an exhibition match at the club. In 1970 Arnold Palmer, along with several partners, assumed control of the Bay Hill Club, and six years later, he bought out his partners and made the Bay Hill Club the Palmer family winter home.

The Bay Hill Club and Lodge features a championship golf course that was designed to by Dick Wilson and Arnold Palmer. The grass on the golf course is grown from Bermuda grass seeds, which loves the sun and is drought resistant. The course itself is 7, 205 yards, with a slope rating of 139 and a par of 72. The old overall rating of this golf course is 75.1.
