Phoenix Golf Courses

Phoenix Arizona has more of the USA Top 100 golf courses than any other city. There are dozens of Phoenix golf courses to play. Some of the Phoenix golf courses are more challenging than others. Some have better scenery, but there are plenty of choices for everyone.

A popular Phoenix golf course is the Club West Golf Course and is rated as one of the top 20 places to play golf in Arizona. It is a course that is designed around a desert theme. The Club West Golf Course runs through the foot hills near Phoenix in the Sonoran desert. There are many different types of holes in the course which can encompass as many as 7,000 yards. With lush Bermuda fairways, it is a great golfer's destination.

Other Phoenix golf courses include the three courses at the Desert Mountain Complex, all of which were designed by Jack Nicklaus. The Renegade Course was Nicklaus' first creation at Desert Mountain. Most golfers will find that it suits their level of play because there are five tee boxes and two pin placements. This allows players to customize play to their skill level.

The other two courses of Desert Mountain are the Geronimo Course and the Cochise Course. Geronimo has a spectacular layout, allowing golfers to play over deep ravines and along stunning plateaus. The last hole is perhaps the most striking, going over a canyon that separates the two-tiered green.

The Cochise Course is said to be one of America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses. A major championship of the Senior PGA Tour is held at Cochise, and players love the course. It has been voted the Best Maintained Course by the Senior PGA Tour members.

Troon North Golf Club is another of the favorite Phoenix golf courses. Troon's Monument Course has also been ranked in America's top 100 golf courses. The major landscape feature in sight is Pinnacle Peak. Prices are high, perhaps partly due to excellent maintenance of the greens. However, Troon Monument Course is well worth golfing. The newer course at Troon is the Pinnacle Course, and it presents some unique challenges.

The Legends Golf Resort at Arrowhead offers one of the best phoenix golf courses you can play. It was designed by golf great Arnold Palmer. It is a very unusual course, with many surprises. Interestingly enough for a desert course, water is a major feature of the course.

Water hazards are also plentiful on the Ocotillo Golf Club. It has 27 holes for the golfer to contend with, and 24 of the holes are involved with the lakes. The greens often have either two or three tiers. There are 112 sand traps to avoid or escape. The regional competition of the PGA Tour Qualifying competition is held at the Ocotillo Golf Club.

The Stonecreek Golf Club is a very hilly course, but one of the more popular Phoenix golf courses. The LPGA uses the Stonecreek course for the Mitsubishi Pro Am competition every year. It is a fine, challenging course.
